11 Belgrave achieves a design reviewed BREEAM Outstanding rating

Our vision for 11 Belgrave was to create a workplace that would sit amongst the most sustainable and healthy buildings in London and the UK. It is net zero carbon in design, construction and operation.

With a design stage BREEAM Outstanding rating, 11 Belgrave sits in the top 1% of BREEAM assessed buildings.

To ensure exceptional performance, we adhered to both the RICS whole life carbon analysis and the UKGBC net zero carbon buildings framework. Consequently, the building will achieve whole life carbon that’s 38% better than the RIBA 2030 Challenge and has achieved UKGBC Net Zero Carbon for construction and operation.

We took a holistic approach to the design and construction of the building and considered its operation too:

  • 35% of the existing structure is being maintained to reduce embodied carbon
  • Materials are being prepared off-site where possible for efficient construction
  • Material have been selected based on environmental credentials: low carbon concrete and less carbon-intensive structural steelwork, as well as non-toxic materials such as timber and stone
  • It will be a fully electric building, complemented by high efficiency PV panels on the roof
  • Integrated and intelligent heating and cooling systems will ensure thermal comfort all year round
  • A smart building app will carry out real time energy analysis, allowing for continual assessment and improvement by the users

By investing time up front and exploring all of the options for each stage of the development, we have ensured that the building will be sustainable for the long-term.
